Saturday 11th March - walk **** Levington Creek to Nacton Shores - sunny periods.

After a cold week of rain and snow showers it was lovely to see blue skies over Felixstowe this morning, I did my exercises in the back garden for the first time this year while Mag enjoyed a spell of one armed gardening, checking her new plants in the cloches, she always loves seeing the new growth that Spring brings:) It was such a lovely day I packed a picnic and we drove over to Levington for a picnic and walk, our original plan was to park by the church and sit on the seat overlooking the Orwell but that was taken so we continued to Levington Creek. Starting off at 1.40 we walked round the Creek with the tide high there were loads of widgeons and some top clouds over the Orwell. We decided to continue along the river path up through the trees to have our lunch at Nacton Shores although the first section of path is in very bad condition, muddy and loads of puddles making it difficult for Mag with her arm in a sling:( Once we got to the top of the slope it improved and it is lovely along here with cracking views down to the river with three yachts out and a coaster heading out from Ipswich, quiet too with only the odd walker:) We sat on a seat at the Green at Nacton Shores, busier here with several dog walkers, a little cooler now with the sun disappearing behind the nice clouds but we had a buzzard overhead and sheep in the field behind. Well rested we head inland with the first part of bridleway through a wood with tall sycamore trees, spotting several deer too and a crystal-clear stream similar to the ones at Newbourne Springs. Instead continuing along the lane which is dangerous to walk on we turn left along the bridlepath which leads to the horse paddocks at the top of Levington village and speak to a nice lady about to take her tiny ponies out for a ride:) Then back along the lane through the village to the church and back down to the creek, very sadly there are several no cycling signs appearing, instead of encouraging people to get out to enjoy the beautiful Suffolk scenery they are discouraging cyclists, we have always thought that walkers and cyclists can both use the footpaths especially if the cyclists ride slowly and considerately – rant over! Back to the van after a fantastic 4 mile walk and home for a well-deserved cuppa and some of my home cake just in time for the start of the England v France rugby game, sadly I turned it off before half time as England were very poor!

Tomorrow is looking very promising for a windsurf, the first time in three weeks, in fact the day Mag was knocked off her bike, I think she will come tomorrow and go for a walk:) Then Monday it is supposed to blow 40/50 mph, could be another day off !
